‘Welgelegen’ is a windmill built in 1849 for milling wheat. In 1991 the mill was completely restored and is kept in working order since then by volunteers. Flourmill “Welgelegen’ is open for visits every Saturday from 9 to 12 am. Visits are free of charge. With enough wind the mill can be seen in action, with rotating sails. From the platform, 10 meters above the street, there are nice views over Heerenveen.
A guided tour is possible. Just ask one of the volunteers when you visit the mill. Are you planning on coming with a larger group, please let us know beforehand. So we can make sure there will be a guide available for you.
On this page you find a short history of the mill in english.
